Dr. Louise Newson on menopause and mental health

In this short video from WAtoday, an interview with Dr. Louise Newson is edited to highlight her thoughts on menopause and mental health, and she put into words so many of my own thoughts.

When asked why she thought there was still stigma around the issue, two of the problems Dr. Newson cites are “misogyny” and “medical gaslighting.” She later goes on to talk about a conversation she had with psychiatrist and professor Dr. Jayashri Kulkarni, who reported frustration that “the psychiatrists aren’t prescribing HRT, the gynecologists don’t believe there’s a mental health issue….” Finally, she talks about menopause and mental health being “huge, this is such an unmet need.”

Listen to a fascinating podcast on the Balance website in which Dr. Newson and Dr. Kulkarni have a conversation about Estrodiol and mental health here.
